Empowerment Through Science

Brenna Bourque is a talented artist who loves all things outdoors, metal music and cats. With a short attention span and fearless attitude, she bounces from place to place, stopping and restarting school several times. That is, until the complex world of microbiology caught her eye.

She researches the intricate processes of little-known microbes in our soil with assistant professor Dr. Paul Carini in the Department of Environmental Science at the University of Arizona. Because of her unconventional path, Brenna remains audacious in the face of unforeseen setbacks and feels empowered by science.

Project Backstory

Landmark Stories is proud to partner up with the Department of Environmental Science at the University of Arizona to tell a series of stories about scientists, from students to faculty, making a difference in our communities and the world. Together we tell the real stories and journeys of the people working tirelessly to find solutions to some of the biggest environmental challenges we face today.
